Discover the work of the Botanical Garden by following in the footsteps of Jeanne Barret, the first woman botanist to travel around the world!
She took part in a scientific expedition on a ship between 1766 and 1769 disguised as a man, under the name of Jean Barret. She was enlisted as a valet and assistant to her naturalist companion, Philibert Commerçon.
We will see the original samples collected by Jeanne and Philibert Commerçon during their journey, and discover how to collect and press a plant to make a herbarium plate, then how to preserve it.
We'll also delve into the greenhouses to unravel the mysteries of growing tropical plants in our latitudes.
